PCER 9.1, emergency water question

Submitted by bobwalden on Tue, 01/28/2020 - 07:36

says: “  1 gallon (3.785 liters) per crewmember of emergency drinking water in sturdy factory-sealed containers in addition to any other water carried aboard the boat and it shall be aboard after finishing. (Amendment of SER3.37)”

do grocery store 1 gallon containers satisfy this? If not (ie, not sturdy or sealed enough), what’s an example of a source for this? Kinda don’t want to order online emergency sealed containers for 6 gallons of water—a lot of shipping cost.

Any suggestions for a SF bay location that sells a product that satisfies this requirement?

thanks,

bw

Bob - grocery store 1 gallon containers satisfy this requirement. The only suggestion would be to protect them from chafe wherever you store them during the race (we've used a towel) so that they're still full when you get to Hawaii.

Yes the store bought ones will work, we wrapped them in bubble wrap and put them in a safe place for the 2019 transpac, they will be inspected upon arrival and are required. Normally only the boats that place are inspected so hope you will place.
